butterflies’ counting

Filed under: Permaculture - claude @ 3:47 pm

I have a new job in the garden : counting the butterflies! It’s not recreation, it’s very serious.

A national program lounched by the "Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle" and an association "Noé Conservation" to make statistics about the population of butterflies in France. Everyone is concerned because these leaving beings are in danger. As others…

But they are so important for plants and life in general that’s became a national emergency. So, gardeners or not are invited to spend a little bit of their time to observe and transmit the numbers of butterflies seen. In the cities one can go in a parc or in public gardens and count. In the gardens it’s easier but you can do that while you walk or while jogging take some relaxing minutes to search these admirable cousins.

It should be a good idea to develop that in schools too. For example, a classromme could spend a morning per week to discover, to learn to recognize and count the butterflies, in wild nature or not.

So many things to do to discover biodiversity, save Nature and educate new generations!
